For Jonathan Sanchez, news of Democratic Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and many of her colleagues formally requesting an investigation into how federal government agencies spend advertising dollars presents a welcome, long overdue and pleasant surprise.
Sanchez, the associate publisher and chief operating officer of the East Los Angeles-based Eastern Group Publications, Inc., which boast a loyal readership of about 500,000 subscribers, has long lobbied for government agencies to include Hispanic and other minority-owned newspapers when considering placing ads.
“This letter that Congresswoman Norton sent to the Government Accountability Office on Friday, April 29 was great and I appreciate all those members who signed the letter,” Sanchez said. “I have been working on this issue for years and I am glad this is finally becoming a reality.”
