Business owners can enhance their company’s service standards through a program.
Successful companies are built on the readiness of their leaders and their willingness to seek guidance for improved opportunities. This is exemplified by the Supplier Diversity Development program of Blue Wave Supplier Development Program, in collaboration with the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC). The program is designed to assist business owners in minority communities. Additionally, participants benefited from mentorship and coaching provided by industry experts and API personnel.
The Blue Wave Supplier Development Program website states that diverse and local suppliers frequently lack a full understanding of the qualification requirements.
This program aims to guide local suppliers in understanding the international standards required by corporations and government organizations, helping them to meet these standards and compete for better business opportunities.
Under the leadership of Eduardo Núñez, co-founder of the Blue Wave Supplier Development Program, a group of entrepreneurs completed a growth and expansion readiness program for their companies.
“When we started the program, we were inexperienced with API requirements, but as we progressed, learning from Eduardo and discussing with other members, we began to grasp quickly. We started to comprehend what needed improvement and immediately began making changes to achieve the program’s goals,” said Victoria Herrera from TanChes Global Management, a graduate whose company specializes in providing IT solutions for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as government and municipal agencies.
The Supplier Diversity Development program offers suppliers the opportunity to enhance their business operations and be better positioned to compete for industry services.
Herrera stated that “the program provides a great opportunity for everyone, preparing you for success by offering all the necessary tools to be competent from the very beginning.”
Similarly, Jesús A. Adame of Straight Line Industrial Services Inc. highlights how the program aids in connecting with potential clients and expanding business operations. He was amongst the first generation/cohort of entrepreneurs to attend this program and has already implemented what he learned in his company.
“It’s challenging to reach plants directly, but participating in these programs helps you connect with the right people who need the products and services you offer. This program is beneficial because completing these classes indicates to those companies that we are ready to work at their facilities. It’s a way to continue growing the company.” Adame shared.
The program covers various essential aspects such as Health and Safety, Cybersecurity, Quality Systems, Corporate Policies, Technical Capabilities, Financial matters, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues.
Elio Longoria, another program graduate and Founder of Inner Fire Logistics, a local company, stressed the significance of implementing the acquired knowledge to drive business growth and success in the future.
Longoria says that ending the Supplier Diversity Development program is just the beginning of a new phase in his business.
After six months of attending virtual and in-person workshops and homework assignments, Longoria was eager to graduate and start implementing the program’s significant impact as a business owner and leader of his team. “This is something that will benefit me every day in the coming years.”
The American Petroleum Institute (API) selected Blue Wave International SDP Corporation as its national partner to cultivate a variety of suppliers for the Energy Industry throughout the United States via a multiyear initiative. The first set of diverse suppliers who completed the Blue Wave Supplier Development Program were recognized at a reception hosted by API, which took place at the Houston Petroleum Club in October 2022. The program has now graduated its second API cohort in the Blue Wave Supplier Development Program which consists of 28 minority-owned companies graduating in January 2024.
Each cohort undertook a comprehensive six-month course to understand, apply, and leverage the global standards adopted by businesses and government bodies. The program is an intensive 8-month business gap closure. According to The Blue Wave Supplier Development Program website, this program will help companies perform self-assessments, identify gaps, build the development plan, and close gaps by leveraging global best practices, tools, a library of templates, online training, workshops, and consulting services focused on your specific challenges.
API’s objective is to enhance safety standards within the industry on a global scale and to advocate for public policies that bolster a robust and sustainable U.S. oil and natural gas sector.
